- A JabberD 1.4 Transport component for bi-directional Jabber<->SMTP (Email) communication. Written in Perl, might be a bit unstable. Tried Ransom, failed. Now GPL'ed & JOSL'ed.

- A set of modules generated via SWIG and based off of code by the Samba project. The modules can be used to authenticate users with a SMB server or NT Domain Controller. Currently trying Ransom.

Digital Art Auction
- A site where artists propose new works, and buyers bid to get these works produced. Not neccessarily a proprietary to free release, but could use Ransom as an option for their artists. Seems to be dead, though.

Voluntarily Limiting Copyright Terms
- Article on Kuro5hin about a copyright license that would automatically free the work after a certain amount of time. Think of it as Ransom without the money, just the Expiration Date.

- The makers of the Quake computer game, id Software, freed their game engine under the GPL when it had become aged. Perhaps they would be interested in adding a monetary aspect for future releases?

- People would place donations in escrow, to be released to an author in the event that the promised work be put in the public domain.
