What about Really Long Expirations?
What is to keep copyright Holders from setting a 30+ year expiration date, in effect keeping it closed forever?
The Ransom model may set a limit (it is an unresolved issue being debated), but it does rely on the free market to let people decide whether they really want to contribute to and help a Work that has such a long Expiration Date. And Ransom makes sure that all the information needed to make that decision is public.
